Big Owl Crochet Applique – a free pattern

Do you remember the short article this September on how to write a crochet pattern? In the pictures you had a sneak preview of this new pattern and today it’s ready to be shown. The new free pattern is called Big Owl Crochet Applique and as the name suggests, it is significantly larger than the other appliques I designed so far. The finished owl is about 2,5 inch high and 1,2 inch wide.
Owls are everywhere. They exist in all colors and shapes and are used for a lot of decorative purposes, from doorstop to wall art. There is probably nothing that does not exist as a sweet owl. Of course, you can find a lot of great owl crochet patterns and I hesitated a long time to design my own.
But even if there are plenty of owl appliques, I did not found what I needed. I searched an owl that shows the whole body and is slightly larger than the normal crochet applique. Therefore, I put down some sketches and designed my own version – the Big Owl Crochet Applique – I hope you like it.
- Dunkelblaue gehäkelte Eulen Applikation – Dark blue crochet owl applique
- Große Eulen Applikation in grau und hellblau – Big owl crochet applique grey and bright blue
The blue and gray owl ended up as an embellishment on a baby bodysuit. This way you can spice up simple, bought clothes. The pink owl has found an owner, too. I am curious what the six year old girl will use it for.

What do you think: are owls outdated or do they remain an all time favorite? Will you crochet this owl? For what you are using it? I’m looking forward to your comments!
